This is a common thing. But here is another thing to look at. This will never be done in a peaceful manner because, the Bible says God is Love, so if you being a witness of the Lord come to enlighten an atheist of his beliefs, an atheist will turmoil the conversation cause they don’t believe in or have any fellowship with the Lord which means he has not LOVE.
Did you know that Atheist spend there whole life hating and blaming the very GOD they say they don’t believe in. ???????
The best thing for a christian to do when it comes to knowing an atheist is to pray for them, cause you cannot change them, ONLY JESUS!!

People can have a reasonable discussion about something that they are not fanatical about. You have to be open minded in order to accept someone elses point of view (not believe it but accept it as something that is right for the other person). When people are fanatical, they can’t accept that their belief system – regardless of which side they stand on – could be wrong.

Beside, these are the people that are easiest to get a rise out of. So people deliberately wanting to create a little chaos know exactly which buttons to push to get it. It only takes one and the land slide of verbal slapping gets started on both sides.

I’d love to have such a discussion.I am an atheist,and I love the words of Jesus.We can discuss his divinity,or interpret his words.I can be quite civil,and would expect the same in return.Won’t get it on the forum though.That’s the nature of the beast.If you are interested in civil discussion,over the interpretation of Jesus,the sciences,whatever.E me.I’m getting off now,won’t be back till monday.But If I get a response indicating you are interested,We’ll start then.I agree,it’s about impossible to get serious dialogue here,so I “fish”here to see if anyone wants to discuss civilly and privately.start anywhere you like.I can answer your science questions.Problem being,you can’t properly answer something with a one liner.I also have my own unique interpretation of the words of Christ.Wanna discuss,so do I.Let me know,and we’ll talk

I agree…but I also know it’s very easy to get riled up here, and it takes a lot of self-control and kindness to not fling back insults when you are being insulted. It’s a vicious cycle…

Not everyone here is mean about it thankfully…and if everyone was civil, this board wouldn’t be nearly as popular, I’d wager (sad but true)

Well…there’s organic and inorganic. I can assure you that they are both good, provided they are pure and beneficial to many. An impure material is no use in serious testing…so filtering and sorting is very important. That requires a lot of knowledge and self searching.

I have nothing against God or Jesus, I believe the things they taught to be good and true and that those values should be the values of all humankind. What I don't agree with is religion as a whole, groups who exclude others, rules, rewards, punishments. I believe only God can judge me and I as a christian became sick of attending church every sunday only to be judged by those seated around me, who are no better than me. Church did not make me feel closer to God, I felt it was a joke, a mockery of the true meaning of "Christianity" to sit with these phony holier than thou snobs who clutched desperately at their "faith" like a life preserver expecting that showing up once a week made up for 6 days worth of sins. I felt God would understand if I wanted to keep others out of our relationship as I felt they tainted it with their judgemental crap. I am a spiritual person, I pray but I do not and probably will never approve of organized religion (as it exists today). In theory it is a lovely Idea but look how it has been manipulated and twisted into something hateful, and that is why I keep my faith to myself.

The answer is that when it comes to religion people tend to have a belief, and feel very strongly about it. Christians tend to feel the need to inform everyone who isn’t like them that they’re going to hell (which I as a Christian believe is true, but yelling that at someone really isn’t doing anyone any good), and many atheists tend to think religion is stupid and it’s their duty to inform everyone of faith, especially the Christians are “constantly harassing” everyone trying to get them to convert to their faith. What people don’t seem to understand is that Christians do what they do because they’re trying to save the people around them from eternal pain and punishment, and what atheists don’t understand is that a person of faith will think they’re at best wrong and at worst stupid for not following -insert faith here- and by saying they’re an atheist they’re offending the religious person and just asking for an argument. Of course there are exceptions to this, but this is what often happens.

I think the fundamental problem is not the subject but that neither side is even willing to accept the possibility that the other could be correct. Atheists believe there is no God, Christians believe there is. It's merely not up for debate as far as either group is concerned.
