I address the common attack on atheists: “You’re morality has no meaning.” By meaning they really mean origin. And a cursory look at the origins of their morality will reveal that they are throwing stones from a glass house.

    Technically yeah …
Technically yeah the bible was written but it contains laws and standards that held to back to beginning of time ………according to bible…..this includes the era of greek philosophers and so on……regardless if the bible was written before or after this era…….the same God and standard of morality given for humankind was given since the beginning

    So before the bible …
So before the bible was written there was no morality? The ancient Greek philosophers based their ethics on a bible that hadn’t yet been written? I don’t think so.

    you say your …
you say your morality comes from genuineness to do good,,,,hehe without the bible morality would not even know what standards in which to hold itself up to….bible gave us law especially moral….ppl who want to kill and rape truly are on bottom of morality ladder but everyone that opposes to do good everyday finds their feet on an immoral path eventually ….the key is not to follow the path rather stay on the path of enlightenment of a good and moral life…..not bad or evil things

    “If people are good …
“If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for a reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.” – Albert Einstein

Need I say more? Another quote that always brings a smile to my face is from someone who isn’t quite so famous. He was just some guy on Yahoo Answers.

“That fellow needs a good swift kick in his reality gland.” – Bozo No-No (AKA Boris) – Y!A

Not exactly full of wisdom but it makes me laugh every time I read it.

    Well said man. I’m …
Well said man. I’m also sick and tired of teaching it to theists this angle. It’s so obvious but they just cannot see it. Or don’t want to. I’m actually starting to think that theists are a bit dumber than atheists due to not getting it. There’s theistic brainwashing, sure, but there’s eventually observable evidence and obviousness. How can they not get it? I just don’t know.

    You are right, …
You are right, obedience is not faith. Faith is the collar on which the chain of obedience is hooked. The Bible demands faith because it cannot provide proof. God is a cruel master who says love me, obey me, have faith in me, or else… It is classic carrot/stick rubbish which only works on the intensely gullible.

Well as of now the way we define it yes, but in the Bible slavery is voluntary.

    I doubt that …
I doubt that slavery was voluntary. Otherwise, it would be called “employment”, not “slavery”.

    Yes, they did what …
Yes, they did what God told them, you can find that as obedience. But God actually reached out to those people as the Old Testament says. They followed him and found that it was good. I’m not sure about the whole rape concept people find from the bible but slavery in the bible was not forced onto people. Those slaves were unlucky people or just could have no labor or place to go to, so they offer themselves as slaves and the people who take them in offer them a place in return for their work.

    Actually, I was …
Actually, I was thinking of the Old Testament, rather than the new one.

Original Sin, Abraham & Issac, etc.

    Well I don’t …
Well I don’t believe Christianity is centered on obedience but love. People having a good nature can be treated as the ability to love one another God has given us. Obedience is not faith. This is all merely a misunderstanding.

    RayTide,

Perhaps it is ridiculous. But blind obedience is strongly emphasized and rewarded in the Bible. Disobedience is punished.

    Morality must come …
Morality must come from within; what some would call “conscience”. The key to the latter word is: “conscious”…as in “consciously formed”. And of your own free will.

Otherwise it is as you say – mere obedience to external dictates. Done out of fear, for societal approval. This breeds hypocrisy, as it is merely external – for show, and not genuine.

Whether one is religious or not, you must form your OWN morality, and then act in coherance with it!

    well, i lie allot …
well, i lie allot because of something your god calls original sin, it is a thing even your religion supports and knows is unchangeable even through the eyes of a omnipotent omniscient leader of the world, lying is an unchangeable thing, i cannot help lying, i can help lying to myself though, lying that the only reason i even believed in a religion is though fear of punishment as this video so rightly states! ps. learn to use letters when letters are what you seek
