Franklin is …
Franklin is probably best described as a Deist. He definitely believed in a God, but was very skeptical of churches and religion. I think he saw God as a bit more active than many other Deists, but you couldn’t call him religious or a member of any particular religion. Certainly not Christian.

The Adams quote is just fake and embarassing to perpetuate.

I always heard that quote you attribute to Lincoln as being from PT Barnum too. Just go to “Lincoln wikiquote” and you will see they list it as disputed and explain its first origin. Google “Barnum fool” and you will see some others say it was Barnum too.

no my firend i think i understood it just now. franklin is taking about faith as being the candle (“put out your candle”) read it carefully. also could you please put some links to your sources. if your right then i will remove or edit this video. thanks

The Franklin quote …
The Franklin quote is from Poor Richard’s Almanac, 1758, in the Chapter “On Virtue, Vice, God, And Faith” and it states in full:

“The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason: the morning daylight appears plainer when you put out your candle.”

That statement really is the opposite of the way you & others are using it. Franklin was lauding faith, not the opposite

Since we have so many good quotes to use, many from Franklin himself on religion, like the lighthouse one, why cheat?

There was a pretty big controversy about that BBC documentary at the time. Their lack of embarrasment about quoting non-quotes was moderately well dicussed in media circles. John Adams is a favorite of mine, any Adams scholar would pick that out quickly as something he would never say.

most of my quotes are taken from wiki. what are your sources? also i did not claim that all these people are atheists because some of them are not. but non of them seem to favour an religion (i.e islam, chirstianity, etc) that’s the whole point of this video. they are free-thinker / free minds
