Would most atheist on this site fall under the definition of persecuting Christians?

Written by admin on September 30, 2008 – 3:46 pm -

persecuting
1: to harass or punish in a manner designed to injure, grieve, or afflict; specifically : to cause to suffer because of belief2: to annoy with persistent or urgent approaches (as attacks, pleas, or importunities) : pester

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/persecuting

lets face it…how many atheists are here actually to learn…and not pester believers…there are many atheist who have been coming to this site repeatedly just to pester Christians…

“most” on YA R&S would, yes… I know many “atheists” who are very good and caring and understanding people… they would never behave in the manner so many do here.

Nope. No more than a psychologist “pesters” someone to get over their delusion that they are Napoleon.

Only if most non believers, women, homosexuals, people of other religions, basically everyone in the world who is not a christian falls under the definition of ‘being persecuted by christians.’

You can’t be serious. How many Christians do you honestly believe are here to learn? Proselytize, yes–learn, no.

i say 98% are here to to make fun of us and 2% are actually here to learn or get answers. the bible predicted that the world was going to give us trouble anyway. so we may as well get use to it.

I am here to answer questions. I was once a Christian and to be perfectly honest, I can answer questions about your own religion a hell of a lot better than some of you. And also, that little definition is the basis of your whole question…which defines exactly what you are doing right now.

Now, just change the atheists to Christians and it works just as well.

    Goes both ways, sorry.

And there are actually a good number of atheists AND Christians who are wonderful, informative, and mature people.

There is no persecution of xians in America where xians are an 80% majority. The problem is what you consider persecution. Being disagreed with, even being made fun of is hardly persecution. Minorities have to put up with that all the time.

Ask anyone who is in a minority in America: They don't care about the jokes so long as they cannot be refused housing, career opportunities, and the persuit of happiness as they perceive it. These things are vouchsafed xians in this country and never, never, never have been denied one of them!

You have yet to consider the message here. Anyone can spout nonsense and hellfire and all that hocus pocus, and they do, non stop. I think the message weighs in more than the delivery. And for that matter half the people parading around on here are not what they claim to be anyway. The angry people on both sides, I would safely claim, have little faith on either side. They simply want to stir the waters.

Under the second definition, Christians are just as guilty of persecuting all others on R&S. But in the general usage of persecution, no, Christians are not being persecuted on Y!Answers.

I guess they would unless atheism is considered a religion since this forum is for religion (are they?) and spirituality. Since they do not believe in God they do not have any spirituality which is quality from God.

You are dumb. Throughout history, Christians have been the biggest group that persecuted people who refused to follow. It continues here where Christians are the biggest pesterers – either pleading atheists to see god or telling them they will go to hell. On average, an atheist is smarter than a Christian. There are exceptions as always.
You are either in denial or inexperienced. I can’t believe I had to explain that to you.

What a hypocritical thing to say. Christians can’t stand atheists, we’re just living our lives and Christians aggressively preach their lies daily.

I don’t plan on burning anywhere but the beach. Fuck off.

I really feel sorry for Atheists. They must be afraid of their convictions to be so on the attack all the time.I would have thought that they could spend their time on other things.

I think that nost atheists are people like everyone else. They are searching for truth. Some people find that their search for truth is satisfied in the sciences, others in philosophy, and others in theological issues. Do not malign a person just because they are atheistic. Most of them are earnest truth seekers, and their eearch has led the to their belief. There are many reasons that have been led them to such a conclusion. While I do not agree with them, I respect any sincere choice.

I think your question has merit….but I think the answers lie in our “personality types”. I come from a divided community, Ireland. There was( is) much religious hatred between catholic and protestant. I have a Professor, David McConnell, who is from the protestant christian science tradition. As a geneticist he has divorced religion but as a human he retains his intolerance of others beliefs. For instance, if his student expressed a belief in God during one of his free discussions in his Philosophy/Science and Ethics course that student would be a marked man as to express belief in God was to establish your ignorance in his eyes. He doesn’t consciously realise this and the image he perceives of himself is very much of liberalism and tolerance…yet he is as intolerant of religious people as his protestant ancestors were of catholic beliefs. I think he illustrates an important point: you can divorce religion and adopt the high moral ground of science and atheism but can you divorce the prejudice in your heart?

fmko, I suppose what "some" of the Atheists do in R&S could be considered a form of persecusion but in all honesty, they really don't have what it takes to bring on a bonifide brand of persecution. They simply have to be content with belittling, name-calling, condescending remarks and attempted character assassinations. It's their little nitch and I suppose if it makes them a little bit happy to do this, who am I to complain? :) :) Take heart fmko it's free entertainmet. :)
