    Please, if your …
Please, if your going to quote the bible, atleast google the scripture. Its says to put God above your family and friends, not to hate. And explain to me how the bible is contradictory please. And i dont throw out reality, i live in it, for certain. In order for this “debate” to continue, you have to atleast explain yourself fully, or show me the source of your information.

Yes, but many Christians say what they believe isn’t a religion.

atheism is a lack of religion, and no one says Christianity isn’t a religion.

    I see nothing wrong …
I see nothing wrong with calling atheism a religion, just so long as we, as Christians, receive the same respect, i.e. defining Christianity as atheism. It’s the least everyone can do, in order to arrive at a mutual understanding of the other’s worldview.

if you were really an agnostic you would probably do things in case there was a God…

agnosticism makes no real sense to me…

You ramble too much. You lost me on the first sentenbce and quite frankly, you’re scary. atheistic or not.

    Thou dost ramble. :)

A theist. I use the term atheist to mean just that, without theism, no theistic beliefs.

I too am disgusted by the things in your list of things you find disgusting. Oddly enough I was disgusted by those things before I applied the term atheist to myself.

I know believers who are disgusted by the very same things.

A point of interest, not of contention.

    How do you …
How do you distinguish between Secular Humanisn and Athiesm? At least regarding your reference to the 50/50 Athiest, who is not positive that God does not exist? Secular Humanism, to me, seems to rely on its own definition, rather than in terms of religious belief. In other words, to them (including me), religion is an issue that does not require addresssing, any more than belief in UFOs or the validity of professional wrestling. Those things are simply not relevant.

    It sounds to me …
It sounds to me like you’re an middle ground Agnostic. In that, there is no real evidence for UFO’s, but there isn’t definitive proof that there can’t be UFO’s either. So it’s not worth discussing until more evidence is found. Atheism refers to a lack of belief in God. Religion is independent of that. You can be an Agnostic Atheist, or an Agnostic theist. Not sure, but you believe that there is probably no God, or you believe in some form of God.

    yeah

My previous roommate put it up. I wasn’t that impressed when I saw it (all style, not much substance).

But it takes up space. I can’t remember the last time I actually bought a poster. I think all of mine are gifted or orphaned.

    Except the world map.

    I bought that.

    You’re confusing …
    You’re confusing two things here.
Atheism doesn’t imply any other beliefs by itself. Yes, atheists do have other beliefs, but that’s indirectly related. There are no doctrines in atheism, that’s just wrong.
People can have beliefs that oppose them to religion, but that applies to everyone, ESPECIALLY theists who hate opposing religions.
About atheists being deceived, you say it yourself: -you- believe it. Everything after that is purely fallacies you’ve bought into. Your opinion, not reality.

  17. By EdwardHowton on Aug 16, 2009 | Reply

This may come as a …
This may come as a shock, but opinions can be wrong. It can be your opinion that red is blue, but that would be incorrect.
Likewise, to claim that atheists want god to not exist is nonsense. I’m certain that some do, just like some christians think that God is a woman (despite the passages that name him Lord and Father). That reflects on their incapability to think critically about things, or the absence of that critical thought. That’s all. The reality is: atheism means a lack of belief in god

    “and following …
“and following people who ‘sound’ right.”
Everyone does that, but the difference from religion is that with science you can do the work and verify things, whereas religion is based on “Because X said so”.
“thats because society is composed of leaders and followers, too many bad leaders”
Debatable but irrelevant. You’re subtly making the tired claim that everything is taken on faith because of arguments from authority. That isn’t the case with non-religious claims. You have more thinking to do

    Only one bible, the …
Only one bible, the most famous book in history. Oh so the cold war was about religion? And yes it is relevant. Which are you? a follower or a leader?

    “the bible teaches …
“the bible teaches us to “love our enemy’s”
And to hate yourself, your family, and your friends, and only love Jesus. I’m sorry I don’t have time to look up the passage, but I can when I get back in two weeks.
“Anything i believe, i must first confirm it with the word of God, which is the bible”
And if the bible is incorrect or contradictory, which it -is-, then what? You must do like Ken Ham and throw out reality, merely because a book that says it is correct must be true.
    That’s bullshit.

    “I infact am a …
“I infact am a christian, and i do think critically.”
But not about your religion. That’s the main issue here. It’s possible to be quite brilliant, but religion survives because it created a blind spot in people’s minds. This is clear in your case at least because of your other comment with all those stupid arguments, and the mischaracterization of what a theory is. It’s not a guess, as you imply.

  22. By EdwardHowton on Aug 16, 2009 | Reply

    “No, infact, …
“No, infact, followers follow, leaders lead”
    Completely irrelevant to anything.
“Do you not think if there was no God we would have destroyed ourselves by now?”
I think we’re lucky to have not destroyed ourselves in some god’s name yet, precisely the opposite.
“Do you think there would even be such athing as a bible?”
Cherry picking much? There’s dozens of different holy books that claim to be the only true one. All of your arguments here are frankly idiotic.

    No, infact, …
No, infact, followers follow, leaders lead. Do you not think if there was no God we would have destroyed ourselves by now? Do you think there would even be such athing as a bible? would not people throw it out and forget about it? I dont think science is “evil” or whatever, i think alot of the theoretical stuff is controversial, and when it comes down to it just theory’s. And im not claiming a single thing, but the gospel, and of Jesus.

    Yes, im fully aware …
Yes, im fully aware of this. there are, and will be many times in my life when im incorrect. You can judge christians all you want, but none of us claim to be perfect, we are all humans. They have their own problems, and it saddens me to see someone with obvious intelect thinking so shallow. I infact am a christian, and i do think critically.

  25. By teamVsRhitboy on Aug 16, 2009 | Reply

    Actually, first of …
Actually, first of all, the bible teaches us to “love our enemy’s”, the “doctrines” are all over the place, including youtube. We dont hate other religions, we look at them like misinformed brothers. Anything i believe, i must first confirm it with the word of God, which is the bible. Its not what i say that matters. I have never said anything here, that i have later said something different, because my beliefs are founded on a rock. Dont get it twisted brah.
