If the below is the definition of an atheist, then how can they exist?

Written by admin on October 31, 2008 – 1:20 am -

Atheism is the state of disbelief or non-belief[1] in the existence of a deity or deities

So, by being a non-believer, you believe in something (namely, disbelief), and by claiming that existence doesn't exist, what are you claiming?

Nothing is nothing, a lack of something. Your argument turns nothing it into something. It's fallacious and silly.

You are splitting hairs, to no useful purpose. A proper definition of atheism is to believe that there is no such thing as a god, and there is nothing logically wrong with that. I don't believe in little green men, either.

It wouldn't matter except that people *do* claim the existence of a God. Atheists aren't claiming a thing–they've just been labelled.

They are claiming nothing, because they believe in nothing
that is just that. I believe in Something so I am a Christian .
And my something is God and his son Jesus Christ whom
left the Holy Spirit to Comfort us.

Your second sentence is what we call "word salad". It makes no sense.

Together with "Capture" and Linda you should be asking yourself "What ever made me think that telling blatant lies about other people would do me or my religion any good?".

I don't believe your question – does that mean it does not exist?
Have you ever actually discussed this theory of yours with
a non-believer? Maybe you should – and than ask this question
again so that it makes sense.

Your name is aptly chosen. I haven't read such a stupid question in a LONG time.
Let me see if I can explain it to you in small words so you won't get confused.
Atheists KNOW that god is an imaginary character in a book of mythology. The only existence we are denying is that of your imaginary sky-pixie. You haven't provided (and here I'm talking about your cult as a whole instead of you personally) one single shred of credible evidence to support it's existence.
When you can do that one simple thing, then we might listen to you.
Until that time comes though, we will continue to regard you as mild-mannered mental defectives.
Oh and thanks for giving me something to post on FSTDT.com!

Not quite. By that logic you should go to jail for murder. You didn't murder anyone… but wait! you MURDERED no-one. Therefor you should go to jail for murdering 'NO-ONE'.
    Do you understand?
If not, let me ask you this? Do you believe in the Easter Bunny? An Atheist feels; God is to believers as the Easter Bunny is to children.

What an appropriate name for your character!

If you are a believer in belief does that mean then that you do not believe in God?

Atheists do not believe in disbelief, we do not believe in God. We have no disbelief in existence, we disbelieve in God's existence. I also disbelieve in the existence of leprechauns, unicorns, and elves. Does that make me not exist as an aleprechaunist, a-unicornist, or an a-elvist?

I believe in only things that have evidence. It isn't reasonable to believe in things that don't have evidence to back them up.

We probably have a pretty similar outlook here. You probably don't believe in Zeus, Thor, Ra, Odin, or any of the other thousands of others. I just include one god that you don't. So as you see it is quite possible to not believe. You do it too.

by beleiving dogmatically in atheism or any "*ism" it becomes just that ("a beleif") because any beleif is subjective and not always based on proof.

I have a question for you: Why would anyone stick their hand in tar to know it's black?? Just because not everyone personally met nor wants to "believe in" a well-known celebrity like say our President George Bush, does that mean he doesnt exist? So the same thing about God, the Way-the Truth-the Life, a Higher Power vs Satan, the father of lies, the lower power. If George Bush is very much alive then so IS God (good beliefs) and Satan (evil beliefs). And PS, your very questioning, disclaiming any belief is PROOF enough that all 3 exist and so the definition of the word atheist is irrelevant. You might have well asked, "Ok, who's on God's side!?" At least God will consider remembering you when you'll need Him one day on your side.

I am not an atheist, but basically they don't believe in God or a "higher power" that created all this in the universe. I dunno maybe they think, like some scientist, that they were apes and gorillas in the early days and all of a sudden miraculously turned into a man. My question to that is, if we evolved then today we should be seeing some sorta half-man half-ape creature walking around and just where are the humans that evolved past just being a man? what are we evolving into? fish? crabs? dog poop?
And the BIG BANG or so maybe there was a big bang, my question is what caused the big bang? out of nothingness came a bang? I dont think so. There is a God and a Satan , whether u believe it or not. IF you dont believe in God well then the devil just gained another follower.

I believe that may be the stupidest question I've ever read, that's something to believe in. And it's a kind of circular thinking thaty doesn't even end at a rational point. Atheists don't believe in fairy tales, thats where it ends,it need go no further. What in the hell do you mean by the statement that they don't believe in existence, where do you get something that inane?

I know one thing: the hate for other beliefs (or dis-beliefs for that matter) is the root of all stupid conflicts in the World today. And it's kind of ironic that everybody claims to have "God" on their side. My personal belief is that there was obviously an intelligent collective force behind the development of life but, from "God's" point of view, we are equally as important and equally as irrelevant as ants.
